I am The Messy Friend

by | Oct 25, 2020 | Faith journey, Friendship | 1 comment

Nobody likes being the messy friend, right? But that’s me right now. I’m the messy friend.

I hate it. I hate being in the valley and struggling physically and emotionally. I like being the helper not needing the help. I love doing the encouraging and reminding others to keep the faith, not needing to be lifted up myself. I’m kind of bad at it. Accepting the help. A friend recently told me that if I didn’t accept her offer to help I was denying her a blessing. God works through people to do His will.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭1:3-5‬

Sometimes life rocks your world and it takes a long while to get back to “ok”. Sometimes you think you’ve dealt with a past trauma only for it to be reawakened and drop you to your knees.

Posture is so important. On my knees is exactly where I need to be. On my face. Fighting. Humbly seeking the face of God. Prayful lament is greater than silent despair.

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭5:6-7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

It’s not desirable but I’ve learned that there is no going around tribulation. I can deny it for a time but I must go right through it and face it otherwise it comes back with a vengeance. I can either be angry and sad about circumstances in my life or I can choose to trust God and find joy and HEALING in the journey.

So here I am attempting to take “it” head on. (There are quite a few “its” currently 🤪) With the help of my friends, the love of my family and the everlasting grace of God.

I hope you will humbly face whatever is on your path. Maybe you are currently supporting a friend in a dark season or perhaps you’re the one in it.

If you’re the supporter, keep loving hard. Be patient and don’t give up.

If you’re the messy friend…You may not like it but you need to embrace it. Let your people love every messy piece of you because they want to and they will. If you let them. 💗

Thanks Jill I love The Rall Ness of your heart to share how you’re feeling. The encouragement at the end to even when you don’t want to face it to face it. You never know what’s on the other side. And he asked when someone wants to bless you remember you could be taken away their blessing by saying no!!
