Turn my eyes away from worthless things;
Preserve my life according to your word.
Whenever I am applying this verse to myself, I usually discover — there are way too many distractions in my life.
Be it from good intention (like saying yes to too many requests) or from pure selfishness (like indulging myself in scrolling through the internet).
I used to think, when my children all go to school, I will have more time to do the things I enjoy, and I will discover more joy in my life.
What I find out is, my days are still passing by like a high-speed train, and at the end of the day, more than not, I still feel dissatisfied.
Yes, my children are in school now, but I have stuffed more things and tasks in my daily schedule.
So, the more hustle and bustle I am, the more hardened and callous my heart becomes. And the more disengaged my spirit, drains my hope and joy.
Friends, let’s learn to say no to our runaway thoughts, our relationship damaging habits, and our penchant for wondering. It is hard, but it has to be done.
And know this–the secret to have inner joy and peace is no other than sinking our hearts deep into the refreshing water of God¹s Spirit — be it meditating, reading, praying, conversation with God. Our souls need uninterrupted, undistracted time with Jesus.
Yes, it is that simple.
So in this noisy world, hopefully, by leaning on the power of God, we will have a discerning mind to filter out of all the junk, and keep a pure heart.
