Six-Day Prayer Challenge for Husbands

by | Feb 13, 2021 | Faith journey, Marriage | 0 comments

Trust me, the most important thing we can do for our marriages is pray. By praying for our loved ones, we are acting as their intercessor to God. In the meantime, we are also purifying our own hearts, chipping away at the selfishness that comes so naturally to us, and repositioning our posture to be more Christ-like.

Please join us for the six-day prayer challenge for our husbands. Each day we will have a specific area to pray for our husbands, and we will post scriptures for you to meditate on.

Day 1 pray for my husband challenge: 🙏Pray for our husband’s spiritual growth.

Nothing is truer than the Christian marriage triangle–

God is at the top of the triangle, and you and your spouse are at the other two corners. As we move closer to God, we are, in turn, moving closer to each other.

In my mind, the best decision I made after I met my future husband is the day I decided to go to church with him. Twelve years and three kids later, not only did I walk firmly in my spiritual journey, my marriage grew more robust than ever.

Verses for spiritual growth– ”And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.” Colossians 1-9-10

Dear Lord, no gift on earth is more precious than the gift of eternal life. Please give my husband wisdom and strength, help him grow closer to you each day, keep his eyes on your eternal glory. In Jesus’s name, Amen!

Day 2 pray for my husband challenge: 🙏Pray for our husbands’ health.

This is one of the biggest challenges in marriages. Many marriages get into trouble because of the determination of a spouse’s mental or physical health. I pray for my husband’s health every day. And we should also pray for God to give us the strength to deal with whatever challenges we will face in the future.

”Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” ~ Isaiah 53:4-5

Dear Lord: I know how fragile our earthly bodies are, and every day we are facing many dangers and uncertainties. Please keep watching over my husband’s mental and physical health, bring healings to whatever illness he has and will be facing one day.

I also know that our only hope and healing is in you. You are in control of our first breath to our last breath. Please give me the wisdom to know the best way to take care of my husband, grant us many years of health and happiness. In Jesus’s name, Amen.

Day 3 pray for my husband challenge: 🙏Pray for the husband’s role as a strong father.

While the culture undermines a man’s God-given emotional strength and masculine character, we Christians need to stand up even firmer for the role God designed for our men.

Our children need strong father figures. So many problems of today’s world stem from a lack of good fatherly role models. Pray the Lord to give our husbands strength and wisdom to lead and protect our family incessantly.

Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.” Psalms 127:3-5

Dear Lord, I stand before you today to praise you for giving me the best father for my children. I am beyond grateful for his love, care, a nurturing heart for this family. Please continue to provide him with guidance and support as the head of our household. Lead us to be a strong family union that centers around you, Lord.  In Jesus’s name, Amen.

Day 4 pray for my husband challenge: 🙏Pray for the closeness of your marriage.

This prayer is especially needed when we have small children. It’s so easy to get distracted by our children’s needs and forget our husbands’ needs. Taking care of our husbands’ emotional needs is essential. Their physical needs are equally crucial to the health of our marriages.

I vividly remember one time at a mops meeting about marriages, one of our beloved mentor moms stood up with a T-shirt that said,” just do it!” It became such a classical memory in our minds.

”Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Dear Lord,  Thank you for blessing me with a healthy marriage that centered around you. I ask you to continue strengthening the spiritual, emotional, and physical bonds between us.

Please show us any area in our marriage that has prevented us from entering into a deeper intimate relationship with You and with one another. Help us to forgive each other for things that may hurt or offend us. Guide us to continue to build a stronger marriage.  In Jesus’s name, Amen.

Day 5 pray for my husband challenge: 🙏Pray for good friends in Christ for husbands.

God never wants us to walk in this journey alone. Having a close group of Christian friends is crucial for one’s spiritual health.

The verse “As Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another” is so true (Proverbs 27:17).  Every family inevitably has it’s ups and downs, our husbands need the support and advice from friends who will speak the biblical truth.

”Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Dear Lord, Thank you for bringing good friends into my husband’s life. I pray for the continued nurturing of genuine friendships, bringing the right ones in our lives, and removing the wrong ones that will lead us astray. Let our life be filled with the blessings of of true friendships.

In Jesus’s name, Amen.

Last, this prayer is too good not to share:

“You have blessed us, O God,

with the gift of friendship,

the bonding of persons

in a circle of love.

We thank you for such a blessing:

for friends who love us,

who share our sorrows,

who laugh with us in celebration,

who bear our pain,

who need us as we need them,

who weep as we weep,

who hold us when words fail,

and who gives us the freedom

to be ourselves.

Bless our friends with health,

wholeness, life, and love.

Amen.

Day 6 pray for my husband challenge: 🙏Pray for his passions.

God gave each one of us some unique gifts. We need to encourage our husbands’ hobbies within our abilities.  Not only will you make a happier husband, but you are also building a stronger marriage.

My husband is my number one cheerleader in supporting my passions of painting and writing. In turn, I love to support his hobbies and sports, like biking and tennis. A happy wife makes a happy family, so does a happy husband!

”Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

1 Corinthians 10:31

Dear Lord, please enable me to see my husband’s passion and find creative ways to support him. So I can express my genuine love and care for his well-being and contribute in building a stronger marriage for us.

In Jesus’ name, Amen

❤️I hope you will finish this six-day challenge with us. The saying “The family that prays together stays together” is so true! We wish you a very happy and special Valentine! 🌹
