For years, every time I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t fall back to sleep because of waves of raging thoughts, I would recite the Lord’s Prayer and think through verse by verse. It is a powerful way to center my mind back to the peace of the Spirit.
“Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name.” —our God is holy and powerful. It¹s so comforting to know that He is in heaven and looking after us.
“Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven.” — we have hope. One day, there will be no tears to be shed, no pain and suffering, no more worries and sleepless nights. This earth will be transformed into a new heaven.
“Give us this day our daily bread.” — we don’t need to let anxieties and worries rule our lives because God always provides just what we need in a day.
“And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us.” — forgiveness is such an important virtue that God put right in the middle of the prayer. Why? Think about how many tragedies of this world could be avoided if people would just forgive? And how much joy we would take back from the enemy¹s hands if we give each other more grace?
“And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.” — facing temptation is not our fault, but giving into it, over and over, is the first step that leads to bigger sin—idol worshiping: worshiping the material things of this world, worshiping power, fame, positions… anything that we put on the pedestal of our heart other than God, will inevitably lead to evil.
“For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, Forever and ever.Amen.” — Our God is powerful, limitless, and the most glorious. We, as children of God, will be taking part in His kingdom. This promise is our ultimate joy and peace.
May the Lord’s Prayer bring you the comfort you need when you need it, dear friends. God bless.
