Untie the Knot

Have you had a knot that you can’t untie?

I have a cross necklace from years ago given by my husband that I treasured. Recently I discovered it had a tiny knot on it. I tried to untie it, but it was too small, plus it was sitting close to the clap anyway, so I just let it be and kept wearing it.

The next time I tried to put the necklace on, to my surprise, the knot had grown bigger; somehow, more knots had found their way to wrap around the first one. Now I can’t hide it anymore, and it will be too uncomfortable to wear.

We all have a past hurt just like this knot on my necklace, it had been hurried and ignored, often because it’s too difficult and painful to resolve.

But it won’t disappear by itself. We can pretend nobody can see it, but it will always be there, and sometimes the problem grows bigger and bigger like those extra knots on my necklace, until everyone can see it.

What are your untied knots? A lonely childhood? Addiction? Abandonment? Betrayed by someone you trusted dearly?

Did you swipe it under your bed? Do you try to untie the knot with your own strength?

I have tried all these above to no avail.

Until the day I said to Jesus: I surrender to you, Jesus. I give this problem to you because I am too tired, too worn out to deal with by myself.

I can’t untie a knot in my heart that’s been staying too long and curled too tight.

My human fingers are not made for it.

But Jesus can.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Reminds us: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

We used to depend on our own strength because that’s what we knew. But we are now a new being, a child who found the way back to the Father. A Father who is not absent and careless like some of our earthly fathers are.

Our Father always cares, loves, and knows the key to any problems.

Let Him untie the knot, friends.

With His help, I am working to open some of my decades-old knots, and I can’t wait to see the new creation I will be.
